Professor David Whiteman
Biography
David Whiteman is a medical epidemiologist with a special interest in the causes, control and prevention of cancer. He received his medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1991. Following a PhD in cancer epidemiology at QIMR (1997) and specialist training in Public Health Medicine, he was invited to the University of Oxford as a Nuffield Medical Research Fellow to work in several areas of cancer research. He returned to Brisbane in 2000, and now leads a large program of cancer research, including as Principal Investigator of the QSKIN Study, a prospective cohort of more than 43,000 participants being followed for the occurrence of keratinocyte cancers and melanoma.
In addition to his research activities, he is a member of the Academy of the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC) and Chair of the Barrett’s Neoplasia Guidelines Committee for the Cancer Council Australia.
